About GE Margin

The free Grand Exchange tracker built for every Old School RuneScape player — no paywalls, no locked features, no premium tiers.

Our Mission

GE Margin exists because we believe Grand Exchange data belongs to the community that generates it. Every price, every margin, and every transaction that flows through the GE is created by players buying and selling items in Old School RuneScape. That data is collected and published freely by the OSRS Wiki through their Real-Time Prices API — a public resource maintained by volunteers. When other services take that same public data and lock it behind monthly subscriptions, they are charging you for something the community already made available for free.

We built GE Margin to change that. Our goal is to give every player — from fresh accounts with 10K GP to veteran merchants managing billions — unlimited access to the same tools and data that paid services offer. There are no artificial restrictions on how many flip suggestions you can view, no daily limits on calculator usage, and no features gated behind a paywall. If you can use it on GE Margin, you can use it for free, forever.

The OSRS community has always been about helping each other. Clan chats share money-making methods, Reddit posts break down the latest merching opportunities, and Discord servers coordinate group activities. GE Margin is built in that same spirit. We want to be the tool that levels the playing field so that a new player researching their first flip has access to the exact same real-time data as someone running eight accounts simultaneously. Knowledge should not be a luxury good.

What GE Margin Offers

GE Margin is not a single tool — it is a complete suite of Grand Exchange resources designed to cover every aspect of trading in OSRS. Here is what you get access to, completely free:

The Flip Finder is our flagship tool. It surfaces unlimited real-time flip suggestions drawn from live GE transaction data, sorted by profitability. Every item shows its current margin, ROI, buy limit, hourly volume, and a flip rating from 1 to 10 so you can quickly identify the best opportunities. You can filter by members or F2P, search for specific items, and sort by margin, rating, or profit per hour.

We offer 17 calculators covering the most profitable skilling and trading activities in the game. The Blast Furnace calculator shows real-time bar profits. The Herblore calculator ranks every potion by cost and XP rate. Other calculators cover cooking, fletching, high alchemy, GE tax, potion decanting, item set packing, tan leather, gem cutting, herb cleaning, plank making, bolt enchanting, and more. Every calculator uses live prices so the numbers you see reflect what you will actually pay and earn in-game right now.

Beyond flipping and calculators, GE Margin includes price alerts that notify you via Discord webhook when an item hits your target price, a profit tracker to log your trades and see your total earnings over time, daily deals highlighting the best short-term opportunities, top items ranked by various metrics, a market watch page for tracking broader trends, and a full item database with detailed pages for over 3,000 tradeable items including price charts, margin history, and trading data.

How Our Data Works

Every number on GE Margin traces back to the OSRS Wiki Real-Time Prices API, a community-maintained data source that records actual Grand Exchange transactions. The API reports instant buy prices and instant sell prices for every tradeable item, updated every 60 seconds. GE Margin fetches this data and maintains a 10-minute in-memory cache to balance freshness with performance.

Margins are calculated as the difference between the instant buy price (what you pay to buy an item immediately) and the instant sell price (what you receive when selling immediately), minus the 2% Grand Exchange tax that is capped at 5 million GP per transaction. This gives you the true net profit per item after tax — the number that actually matters when deciding whether a flip is worth your time.

Each item receives a flip rating from 1 to 10, which is a percentile-based score derived from the item's profit per hour. Profit per hour is calculated as: margin multiplied by the minimum of the item's buy limit or its hourly volume times four, then divided by four. This formula accounts for both the margin size and how quickly you can actually cycle through your buy limit. A high-margin item with a tiny buy limit might look attractive on paper, but it will not generate meaningful hourly income. The flip rating distills all of these factors into a single number so you can compare items at a glance.

We also track 1-hour volume data to calculate price change percentages, and we apply quality filters to curated lists like Daily Deals and the homepage ticker. Items need meaningful margins (at least 100 GP or 1% of buy price), a buy limit of 50 or more, and real trading volume to appear in curated recommendations. This prevents low-liquidity junk items from cluttering the results.

Why We Built This

When we started flipping on the Grand Exchange, we found the existing landscape frustrating. The established GE tracking tools either charged money for features that relied on freely available data, limited how many items you could view per day, or locked their best tools behind premium subscriptions. Meanwhile, the underlying price data that powers all of these services — including ours — comes from the same OSRS Wiki API that anyone can access for free.

We built GE Margin because we thought the OSRS community deserved better. There are no premium tiers on this site. There is no "Pro" plan that unlocks extra flip suggestions. There is no subscription that gives you access to more calculators. Every feature you see is available to every visitor, whether you have been playing OSRS for ten years or ten minutes. We will never paywall a feature, and we will never restrict access to data that the community generated in the first place.

GE Margin is community-first by design. Optional account creation through Discord lets you sync your favourites, alerts, and trades across devices, but guest mode is fully functional without signing in. Your data stays yours. We do not sell it, we do not mine it, and we do not use it for anything other than giving you a better experience on this site.
