Mid-Range F2P Flips (50K–500K)
Once you've built up some capital from starter flips, these mid-range items offer better margins per trade. Higher investment per slot, but noticeably better GP/hr. At this tier, you can start thinking about which items pair well together to keep all 8 slots rotating.

How F2P Flipping Works
Flipping on the Grand Exchange means buying items at their instant buy price and reselling them at the instant sell price. The difference between these two prices — minus the 2% GE tax — is your profit margin. You don't need any skills, combat levels, or quest completions. If you can access the GE in Varrock, you can flip.
The GE tax was increased to 2% of the sell price (capped at 5M GP) and applies equally to F2P and members transactions. When you see a margin listed on this page, the tax is already subtracted — what you see is your actual profit per item. Use our GE Tax Calculator to check exact tax amounts on any item.
Every item in the game has a buy limit — the maximum number you can buy in a 4-hour window. Buy limits reset on a rolling timer from your first purchase. High-volume items like runes may have limits of 13,000+, while rarer items might only allow 70-150 per window. The GP/hr column on our tables accounts for both buy limits and actual traded volume, giving you a realistic earning estimate.
F2P accounts share the same Grand Exchange as members. The only restriction is item eligibility — you can only trade items usable in free-to-play. This actually works in your favour for some items: F2P staples like runes, basic food, and smithing materials see massive volume because both F2P and members players trade them. Best F2P Items to Flip
The F2P item pool is smaller than members, but several categories consistently produce profitable flips. Runes are a cornerstone — nature runes, law runes, cosmic runes, and elemental runes trade in enormous volume. Mages on every world burn through runes constantly, creating steady demand. The margins per rune are small, but with buy limits of 13,000+ you can move serious GP per cycle.
Ores and bars are another reliable category. Iron ore, coal, mithril ore, and their smelted bars circulate heavily thanks to smithing training and Blast Furnace demand from members. Logs follow a similar pattern — yew logs and maple logs are consumed by fletchers and firemakers across both F2P and members worlds. Food like lobsters, swordfish, and tuna are always in demand from PvP and PvM players.
Low-level armour and weapons can surprise you with decent margins, especially rune equipment. Rune scimitars, rune platebodies, and rune 2h swords see consistent trade volume from new players and pkers. The key advantage of F2P flipping is volume — these items are traded by millions of players, so your offers fill fast. Browse all tradeable items on our Items Database to explore the full catalogue.
F2P Flipping Tips
- 1.Focus on high-volume consumables. Runes, food, and smithing materials are the bread and butter of F2P flipping. These items have massive daily trade volume, which means your buy and sell offers fill quickly. A 50 GP margin on an item that fills 10,000 times per hour beats a 5,000 GP margin on an item that takes hours to sell.
- 2.Use all 8 GE slots at once. Your GP should never sit idle. Spread your capital across 8 different items to diversify risk and maximise throughput. If one item's margin collapses, the other 7 keep earning. Check the Flip Finder to pick 8 items with different buy limit timers so they don't all expire at once.
- 3.Reinvest every coin of profit. Compound growth is what turns 100K into 10M. After every successful flip cycle, put the profit straight back into your next batch of offers. The faster your bank grows, the faster you can access higher-margin items in the 50K–500K range.
- 4.Save up for a bond. A bond costs roughly 7–9M GP and grants 14 days of membership. With focused F2P flipping, most players reach this within 3–7 days. Once you have membership, the flipping landscape opens dramatically — members items often have wider margins and more diverse opportunities. Read our Money Making Guide for strategies once you go members.
- 5.Use our free tools to stay ahead. Margins shift constantly. The Flip Finder shows real-time data across every tradeable item. The GE Tax Calculator lets you check exact tax on any trade. The Profit Tracker logs your flips so you can see what's actually working over time. The Daily Deals page highlights today's best opportunities.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you flip on the GE as F2P?
Yes. Free-to-play accounts have full access to the Grand Exchange with all 8 trading slots. The only restriction is which items you can trade — F2P accounts can only buy and sell items usable in free-to-play worlds. This still includes hundreds of tradeable items like runes, ores, bars, logs, food, and low-level equipment.
What are the best F2P items to flip?
The best F2P flips change constantly based on supply and demand. High-volume consumables like runes, raw food, and smithing materials tend to be reliable because thousands of players trade them every hour. Check the live tables on this page for current margins — they update every 10 minutes from real GE data.
How much can you make flipping in F2P?
Experienced F2P flippers can earn 200K-1M+ GP per hour depending on available capital and market conditions. With a small bank (under 100K), expect 50K-150K per hour. As your bank grows, profits scale — more capital means you can flip higher-margin items and fill all 8 GE slots simultaneously.
Should I buy a bond from F2P flipping profits?
A bond costs roughly 7-9M GP. With consistent F2P flipping, most players can afford a bond within a few days of active trading. Once you have membership, your flipping options expand massively — members items often have wider margins and higher volume. Many players start F2P, buy a bond, then sustain membership through members flipping.
Does the GE tax apply to F2P?
Yes. The 2% GE tax applies to all sell transactions regardless of membership status. The tax is capped at 5M GP per sale. When calculating margins, always subtract the tax from the sell price to find your real profit. Use our GE Tax Calculator for exact figures.
