All F2P Money Making Methods
Here is every viable method for making gold in free-to-play OSRS, ranked roughly by GP per hour. Combine multiple methods for the best results — flip on the GE while you skill, and reinvest skilling profits into bigger flips.
1. Grand Exchange Flipping (200K-500K+ GP/hr)
The highest passive income method in F2P. Buy items at their instant-buy price, wait for the margin to appear, then sell at the instant-sell price. No skill requirements, no combat, no moving — just smart offers. The key is volume: use all 8 GE slots, pick items that trade frequently, and check offers every few minutes.
Start with the budget flips table above if you have under 50K GP. As your bank grows, graduate to higher-margin items. Our Flip Finder shows every profitable F2P item in real time, and the GE Tax Calculator helps you factor in the 2% sell tax.
2. High Level Alchemy (100K-300K GP/hr)
Requires 55 Magic. Buy items from the GE, cast High Level Alchemy on them, and pocket the difference between the alch value and your buy price plus nature rune cost. You can alch roughly 1,200 items per hour. The profit per cast varies — check the alch table above or the High Alch Calculator for live numbers.
The best part: you can alch while doing other activities. Run laps at the Stronghold of Security, alch between agility obstacles, or alch while waiting for GE offers to fill. It trains Magic and makes money at the same time.
3. Telegrabbing Wines of Zamorak (100K-200K GP/hr)
Requires 33 Magic for Telekinetic Grab. Head to the Chaos Temple north of Falador and telegrab the Wine of Zamorak from the table. Each wine sells for a decent amount on the GE — check the current price on our item database. The spawn rate is about one wine every 25 seconds, and competition from other players can slow you down. Bring law runes and air runes (or an air staff). World hopping helps find empty worlds.
4. Crafting Gold Jewelry (100K-150K GP/hr)
Buy gold bars and gems from the GE, craft them into jewelry at a furnace, and sell the finished product back. Gold amulets (unstrung) and sapphire rings are popular choices. Requires a Crafting level appropriate for the jewelry you want to make — gold rings need just 5 Crafting. Check the GE prices for gold bars and finished jewelry to verify the margin before committing.
5. Mining Iron Ore or Coal (50K-100K GP/hr)
Iron ore is available at 15 Mining and is the fastest F2P ore to mine. The Dwarven Mine and Al Kharid mine are popular spots. Coal requires 30 Mining and sells for more per ore, but mines slower. At higher Mining levels, your GP per hour improves because you fail less and mine faster. Sell everything on the GE — check live prices to decide between iron and coal.
6. Cooking Lobsters and Swordfish (50K-100K GP/hr)
Buy raw lobsters or swordfish from the GE, cook them on a range (the Lumbridge Castle range reduces burn rate), and sell the cooked versions back. The margin is small per fish, but cooking is fast and AFK. You need 40 Cooking for lobsters and 45 for swordfish. At higher Cooking levels you burn less, increasing profit. Use the item database to check raw vs. cooked prices before buying in bulk.
7. Collecting Items — Cowhides, Bones, Ashes (30K-80K GP/hr)
The lowest-requirement method on this list. Kill cows in Lumbridge for cowhides (no requirements), collect big bones from the Bone Yard in the Wilderness, or pick up ashes from fires in the GE. Cowhides are the most reliable — each one sells for a small amount, but you can collect hundreds per hour. This is a great starting method for brand new accounts with zero gold. Sell everything on the GE and reinvest into flipping.
From F2P to Bond — How Long Does It Take?
An Old School Bond costs roughly 8M GP on the Grand Exchange (prices fluctuate — check the live price in our item database). Here is how long it takes to earn a bond at different income levels:
| Method | GP/hr | Hours to Bond | Days (4hr/day) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Collecting cowhides | ~50K | ~160 | ~40 |
| Mining + cooking | ~100K | ~80 | ~20 |
| Telegrab wines + alchemy | ~200K | ~40 | ~10 |
| GE flipping (casual) | ~300K | ~27 | ~7 |
| GE flipping (dedicated) | ~500K | ~16 | ~4 |
The fastest path is combining GE flipping with active money making. Flip on the GE while you mine, cook, or telegrab wines. Your flip offers fill passively while you earn from skilling — effectively doubling your income. Once you buy your first bond and unlock members, the money-making methods improve dramatically. Read our Money Making Guide for a full breakdown of members methods.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best F2P money making method in OSRS?
Grand Exchange flipping is the best F2P money making method because it has no skill requirements, no level gates, and scales with your bank. A dedicated flipper can make 200K-500K GP per hour passively using all 8 GE slots. For active methods, telegrabbing Wines of Zamorak (33 Magic required) earns 100-200K GP per hour.
Can F2P players use the Grand Exchange?
Yes. Free-to-play players have full access to the Grand Exchange with all 8 buy/sell slots. The only restriction is that F2P accounts can only trade F2P items — members items are locked. This still gives you access to hundreds of tradeable items for flipping.
How long does it take to earn a bond in F2P?
A bond costs roughly 8M GP. At 200K GP per hour from flipping, that takes about 40 hours. At 300K GP per hour with active flipping plus other methods, you can cut that to around 27 hours. Many players earn their first bond in 1-2 weeks of casual play.
What skills make money in F2P?
The best F2P money-making skills are Magic (high alchemy at 55, telegrab wines at 33), Mining (iron ore, coal), Smithing (cannonballs require members, but smelting bars works), Crafting (gold jewelry), and Cooking (lobsters, swordfish). Combining skilling with GE flipping is the fastest way to build your bank.
Is flipping worth it in F2P?
Absolutely. Flipping is arguably even more valuable in F2P than in members worlds because there are fewer high-income methods available. Many F2P flippers earn enough to buy a bond within their first few weeks. Use GE Margin's Flip Finder with the F2P filter to find profitable items in real time.
